The 70,000 m2 Rieterpark is Zurich's largest and most impressive landscaped garden and is set in the district of Zurich Enge near Lake Zurich.
The park and associated villa (now the Rietberg Museum) was created in 1855 and acquired in the late 19th century by the industrialist Rieter family from Winterthur. The city gained ownership in 1945. Some of the park’s beech trees date back to the original stock and are therefore more than 150 years old. On a clear day you can see as far as the Glarus Alps, which conveys the impression of an almost endless vista.
