Lötschberg mountain route and Centovalli - Bern

Sometimes the long and winding route is the best way to reach a destination: On many detours, the BLS Lötschberger and the Vigezzina-Centovalli Railway carry travellers to legendary views and excursion destinations.

The Swiss may be straightforward but this panorama journey isn’t. The ride on the RegioExpress Lötschberger from Bern to Brig does not lead through the Lötschberg Base Tunnel but over the century-old mountain route.

From Brig, Domodossola is within easy reach. From Domodossola, the Vigezzina-Centovalli Railway takes guests to Locarno. There is much to marvel at during the ride along the 50 kilometres of this narrow gauge line: some 83 bridges and viaducts, light chestnut forests and the delightful Merlot des Ticino vineyards. This delicious wine is best sampled during one of the many hiking tours that the region offers. Cheers!
