Top 10 things to see in Zurich

Zurich is the largest city in Switzerland and the capital of the canton of Zurich. It is located in north-central Switzerland.
It is a home of the most attractive sites in Europe and holds the history of Swiss. Its many attractions include dozens of museums, a well preserved old town, and enough art museums. The following are the best places to be in Zurich:

1. Lake Zurich

It is eye-catching long, crescent-shaped lakes that curve past the wooded peaks of Pfannenstial to the East and the Albis chain to the west.
There are many activities to carry out in the lake such a boat riding and many more. From the shores, you can look over to Uetliberg and see the hundreds of yachts and other crafts breezing across the lake in summer.
It is also the focal point for most tourists that visit Zurich. The entire shore has parks and promenades where locals go for a picnic, jogs, and also to catch the sun.
The best way to enjoy the cruise is to hop on a cruise from which you will get the beautiful view of the Glarus Alps. Also, there is a large flea-market held on every Saturday, you could get some souvenirs to carry back home.

2. Old town

Amid the financial powerhouse is a neighborhood filled with historic charm. It is a narrow street rising on the east side of the river. Along the street, you will come across Napfgasse, its headquarters of the Lombard money changers in the 14th and 15th centuries.
Haus Zum Napt, which is also along the street, has a fine interior with rooms furnished in Renaissance style. On Spiegelgasse, which is number 17, is a house where Lenin lived in 1917. Also in this street, at Cabaret Voltaire, Hans Arp and Tristian Tzara launched the Dada art movement in 1916.
Spiegelgasse ruins into Neumarkt, where you find the Shoemaker’s Guild House, which is now a theater, and the Hans zum Rech, from the Middle Ages showing the decorative styles and how they have changed over the centuries.
In the Hans zum Rech, you see will the model of Zurich in 1800. They also preserve wall paintings and ceilings from the 17th century and also fine ornamental ironwork.
You will also get an orientation of the city on the two-hour Zurich highlights city. From there you will board the Dolderbahn railway to the Zurichberg for a better view of the old town.

3. Museum of Fine Arts

It is one of the top art museums in Europe, it is run by the Zurich Society of Arts and it traces its history back to a society of artists founded in 1787.it contains a larger collection of several artists such as Charles Munch and some of Monet’s work.
The museum has a room filled with characteristics dreamlike works of Marc Chagall. There also many works from the Dada school, which began in Zurich.
The earlier period works are also well represented, with important collections from the Dutch golden age, Flemish, Italian Baroque, and the Venetian period.
The museum has also emphasized the landmark works such as Domenichino’s first painting of the Baptism of Christ, which is considered a milestone in landscape painting.

4. Bahnhofstrasse

It is the busy pedestrian street stretching from the main train station (Bahnhof) to the head of the lake. Want to go shopping? This is the most attractive shopping street in Europe, decorated with fountains, public arts, trees, and distinguished buildings.
Many shops along the street are lined with fur, fashions, jewelry, and other high-end goods. This makes it a popular place for everyone to visit. The street is an attraction, soaring with shops, cafes, and underneath malls. Zurich’s largest Christmas market is held in Bahnhof.

5. Fraumunster

This is a church that is mainly mistranslated to Church of Our Lady. It makes one of the most popular attraction sites in Zurich. It has a beautiful set of stained glass windows in the chancel created by Marc Chagall in 1970.
It also has windows colored to show Elijah’s ascent to heaven, scenes of Christ’s life, an angel trumpeting the end of the world, and Moses.

6. Limmatquai and the Rathaus

They are commonly known as the town hall. Along Limmatquai, are several elegant old guild houses with very beautiful and eye-catching interiors displaying the wealth of the guilds which governed the town until 1789.
Many of the houses have been restaurants over time, but the old interiors still stand.

7. Swiss National Museum

It is so far the most important collection of the Swiss historic and cultural artifacts. It is a castle-like building with a neo-Gothic design. It displays four themes: early migration and settlement, religious and intellectual history, political history, and the economic development of Switzerland.
It also contains a collection of galleries that showcase the Swiss handicrafts and products.

8. Great Minster

It is a Romanesque three-aisled galleried basilica that dates from 1100. High on the south tower of the great minster, you could see a seated figure of Charlemagne, who is believed to have founded the order to which the church belonged originally.
It has bronze doors that were fitted in 1935, the Gothic wall paintings, and the late Romanesque cloister from about 1200.

9. Zurich zoo

It holds more than 360 different animals’ species. Animals live close to the original habitats for example, the snow leopards live in the rocky Himalayan landscape. In the Kaeng Krachan Elephant Park, you can watch the elephants play in the complex designed to resemble their natural Thai habitat.

10. St Peter’s Church

It is a church that stands on a little hill. It is the oldest parish church in Zurich. In 1538, the church acquired the largest clock dials in Europe,8.7 meters in diameter and it holds that record.
